 Wells Public Library, along with 140 other Maine libraries,  offers over 2,500 eBooks through the Maine Infonet Download Library. This is in addition to the collection of downloadable audiobooks. A variety of  best-selling Fiction, Non-Fiction, YA and Children’s content is available to read or to listen.

 Anyone with a valid Wells Public Library card can access and download books free of charge.  This collection of materials is offered through Overdrive, a global digital distribution company.

We are pleased to announce that the Maine InfoNet Download Library now subscribes to Overdrive's FrontLine Tech Support.  This allows users to interact directly with Overdrive when technical difficulties arise Feel free to contact them here.
The eBooks available through the Maine InfoNet Download Library can be read on Mac or PC computers, or can be transferred to a device such as the Barnes & Noble Nook, Sony eReader, Borders Kobo, Amazon Kindle, Apple iPad and more (click here for a full guide to compatible devices).

FAQ about eBooks from the Maine InfoNet Download Library
  • How many eBooks can I borrow?  A total of three books at a time.
  • How long are eBooks loaned?  You can choose a 7 or 14 day loan period.
  • Can I return a book early?  Yes!  And here are instructions to help you.  
  • What if the item I want to read is checked out?  You may place a hold on the item.  When it is available for download you will receive an email and have three days to checkout the book.
  • Can I renew an eBook?  No.  Renewals are not possible, but if the item is available it can be checked out again.
  • Is the book automatically deleted from my device when the checkout period is finished?  No.  The item will remain on your device, however it will be rendered unusable.  You can delete the item from your device.
